TASTING NOTES

Lorlando, 100% Nero d’Avola, was awarded the JS92 score for the 2016 vintage by James Suckling, one of the most renowned voices of international wine critics. The vintage 2017, convincing and agile, awarded with the 3 Bicchieri by Gambero Rosso’s Vini d’Italia 2020 guide. ”

Q. Tell us about the process Your product goes through, from sourcing to the packaging phase?

A. Thanks to the careful maintenance of the traditional ways of processing native grapes, Assuli has obtained a production of excellent organic wines celebrated by many awards all over the world. Today the third generation of the family – Roberto, Nicoletta and Michele – is now leading the company towards new goals, handing over the age-old expertise into the bottle creating wines that are absolutely genuine and of unmistakable personality. Each bottle tells a fascinating story, it’s a spokesman for the uniqueness that distinguishes Assuli.

Q. What are the qualities You are looking for when creating Your product?

A. Assuli completely embodies the principle of identity of the land of origin, by promoting the production of traditional Sicilian grapes: Nero d’Avola, Zibibbo, Insolia, Lucido, Grillo, Perricone. In fact, these native varieties develop an intimate relationship with the terroir, adapting to it and nourishing themselves on its specific features.

Q. What makes Your product better than the one of Your competitor?

A. The wines display great character and personality, bucking the global trend of homogenizing tastes. By combining all the fragrances and contrasts of Sicily with a quest for the optimization of aromas, Assuli is encouraging an ever-growing public to get to know, seek out and enjoy the wines of Sicily. Space for innovation under the flag of territoriality also with the “relic vines” recovered thanks to an ambitious experimental project including micro-winemaking which shows witness to the island’s extraordinary biodiversity.

Q. What is the greatest challenge You’ve encountered while creating Your product?

A. “The features of our wines are the result of an insular-Mediterranean climate, with mild winters and windy summers. The altitude, the terroir and the good mineral endowment make the cultivation privileged: the ventilation is incredible and the minerality extraordinary, elements that you can appreciate in the glass” says Roberto Caruso, President of Assuli. Combining all the scents and contrasts of Sicily in a complete aromatic research, Assuli brings an ever wider public closer to knowing, finding and appreciating wines that have won valuable awards. For example FURIOSO 2018 awarded with the Tre Bicchieri, the only Perricone in purity among the 26 Sicilian wineries that have obtained the highest recognition. An unmissable appointment with Italian oenological excellence, the Gambero Rosso Jury assigns this Assuli wine a decidedly interesting result achieved for 3 consecutive vintages: 2016, 2017, 2018. Particularly happy years in which the interest of wine lovers has emerged for this cherished autochthonous vine that achieves recognition of the main opinion leaders in the sector with surprising consistency.

The winery has recently been awarded four times in America Wine Awards competition:

Furioso ’18 – Gold Medal Winner

Lorlando ’19 – Gold Medal Winner

Fiordispina ’21 – Gold Medal Winner

Dardinello ’21 – Silver Medal Winner
