The Azienda Agricola Giovanni Sordo is a family-owned winery, to be found in the heart of the well-known Barolo region, in the municipality of Castiglione Falletto. It is currently managed by Giovanni, the 3rd generation of a family who has been in the wine business for more than a century.

According to Elisa Rabino, export director of Azienda Agricola Giovanni Sordo, the Sordo’s selection is suitable for everyone and it’s the only winery that can boast its wide variety whose vineyards are located in 8 different Cru, with completely different characteristics due to their unique environments and soil compositions that the family succeed in maintaining during its traditional vinification process.

Recently, Azienda Agricola Giovanni Sordo has recently joined America Wines Awards 2020 and has received a Gold Award for their SORDO BAROLO DOCG 2016, awarded by America Wines Paper.

Characteristics: Garnet red colour with brick orange shades which intensify as time goes by. Intense and complex perfume but delicate and ethereal at the same time; warm, full and dry palate. Its complexity is given by the persistence of the tannins.

The grapes are harvested only when fully matured and the vinification starts straight away when they get into the cellar. First, it comes the destalking, soft pressing, follows a fermentation – which is tumultuous and takes place at about 30 ° C – then it follows the maceration where the submerged-cap method is used. This consists in leaving the must in contact with the skins and pips which – according to the tradition – is for about six weeks. After racking, the ideal conditions for a perfect malolactic fermentation are created in the cellar.

The wine matures in traditional big Slavonian oak barrels for 24 months and ages in the bottle before being sold. Barolo enjoys extraordinary longevity. This process is the one employed to produce all our Barolo – from the Classic one to the crus.

The Sordo family has been exporting its wines in the US for more than 40 years. The state of New York has been the first to welcome their products and over a period of months, it spread all over the country with a positive response. The brand and products are present nearly everywhere in the US.
