“Quinta Monteiro de Matos” is a family fine winemaking company, located at Tejo Region, Portugal, that started in the middle of XX century, by Antonio Monteiro de Matos. After two decades, Antonio Monteiro de Matos bought more land to plant extra vineyards, in order to have production for the demands, that were increasing year after year.
Nowadays, with the 3rd generation of the family in the head of the business, our wines are in more than 20 countries, and our export sales are already 75% of the total sales of the group. We have a range of wines, from the entry-level, medium level, and high-end wines, with wines recognised with the seal of quality.
The facility comes with a restaurant, so you can easily book your lunch or wine tasting with your friends, family or colleagues as well as any other kind of event. You will have at your disposal the full range of wines and also a wine shop, where you can easily buy a gift for you or to any of your friends as a reminder of the special moment you had at their place.
They have Enoturism too, where you can taste all the wines produced by the company, have your wine tasting or meal, make a tour guide to the vineyard, and learn more about the winemaking process.
Recently, Quinta Monteiro de Matos has joined America Wines Awards 2019. Here are 2 of their wines that won the competition:
- Reserva do Paul – Grande Reserva Red Wine DOC do TEJO 2014 – 16.5%
It has been awarded Gold by America Wines Paper.Intense garnet colour, with a complex aroma of black fruit. Tannins well structured, with a long and persistent finish.
- Terras de Paul Red 2018 – 14%
It has been awarded Gold by America Wines Paper.
The colour shades of intense ruby and aromas of black fruity jell and jam. The surrounding tannins give it a very balanced and enjoyable structure, with an aftertaste of persistent notes of black fruit.

Question 1: Do you already export to America? If yes, where? If no, what type of importers & distributors are you looking for in America?
Yes, but only entry-level wines. We are looking to find a company to represent and sell our high-quality wines.
Question 2: What is the most unique and qualitative part of your products, different from competitors?
Our winery is considered to have unique soil and many sunshine, that´s why our Grande Reserva have 16,5% alcohol. We have focused since the beginning, in planting grapes to give quality wines, and that´s why we have been achieving many awards from different countries. Also, our history in producing wines for many years, gives us the advantage to do great wines. The passion and dedication in our daily work in the winery, trying to do in the most perfect way, is also a key to our success.
Question 3: When did you start to export your brand worldwide, and what is your development plan for the next years?
We started to export in 1982, in the beginning to France to the Portuguese people that have emigrated in the past. Our development for the next years is to finish our project of the Enotourism, which have started a few years, where we have a big saloon for wine tastings and lunch or dinner, but we want to extend the rooms we have, due to demand we have been receiving. About the wines, keep working to develop our brand in the different markets and share our wines with more and more consumers.
